HYPERBARIC; TINNITUS AND STROKE
The German HBO Story between Tinnitus and Stroke
Fritz Steinberg M.D., Institute of Bioscience, private University of Witten/Germany
In more that 90 multi place chambers with 900 treatment places more that 1000 treatments per day (270,000 per year) are performed. Tinnitus, sudden deafness and diabetic based problem wounds are the most important indications.
The VDD (Verb and Deutscher Druckkammerzentren e V.) organizes 90% of the hyperbaric centers. The VDD supports the hyperbaric medicine in Germany and serves their interests in the public and in front of official institutions – such as health insurance companies, health ministries, etc.
The GTUM (Gesellschaft fur Tauch und Uberdfruckmedizin/German soc. For Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine) as the scientific society represents a platform for more that 700 member to exchange of experience between diving medicine and clinical HBO. Based on the medical state of the art the VDD and GTUM define guidelines for quality and safety standards for hyperbaric facilities in respect to medical HBO societies (German and international). The members of our association are obliged to respect these guidelines.
At the moment the interest is based on:
- Publication of concise and compact information for each indication of HBO therapy
With enclosed hard copies of all literature sorted according to scientific impacts.
2. Including scientific prospective studies for diabetic ulcers, stroke (Acute and
- chronic), migraine, eye (arterial and venous occlusion of central artery), sudden
deafness, acute tinnitus together with University-Hospitals.
- Implementation of a database for HBO literature (more that 20,000 papers based on a
CD based databank) including those of the UHMS and others available in Europe.
- As further proof that scientific documentation is available it is anticipated that
German HBO centers will become involved in treating the CP child.
