NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTATION IN THE TREATMENT OF BRAIN INJURED AND CEREBRAL PALSY CHILDREN
By Paul Yutsis, M.D. – Assistant professor of Medicine, Capital University for
Innovative Medicine, Washington, DC, USA
The purpose of nutritional supplementation in the treatment of brain injured children and children with Cerebral Palsy receiving Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is two-fold:
- To supplement them with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, and
Neurotransmitters wherever deficiencies are presented.
- To supplement them with the nutrients in order to prevent possible oxygen
Oxygen toxicity caused by HBOT.
Generally these nutrients will either increase energy levels, maintain blood glucose, build immune strength, or prevent the destructive oxidation of neurons by free radicals. As each nutrient performs a different task, it may be necessary to take more than one of these substances.
Dr. Yutsis will discuss the role of each and every supplement in Cerebral Palsy and brain injured children’s overall health. The importance of complex supplementation, individual approach and parental education will be explained in detail.
